What is CABRI and what does it do?
CABRI stands for the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative and is a network of senior budget officials in Ministries of Finance/Planning across Africa. CABRI’s main objective is to promote efficient and effective management of public finances to foster economic growth and enhance service delivery for the improvement of living standards of people living in Africa.

Through its programmes, CABRI mainly seeks to:

1. Enhance peer learning on public financial management (PFM) reforms between African countries
2. Undertake capacity development to budget officials
3. Commission research on budget systems, budget management of aid flows and fiscal and budget policy, and enrich PFM literature on Africa
4. Develop country support initiatives
5. Enrich dialogue between African states and development partners
6. Develop and promote common African positions on PFM related issues of interest to Africa

Where is CABRI located?
The seat of the CABRI Secretariat is located in Pretoria, South Africa.

How is CABRI governed?
CABRI is governed by a General Assembly, which is responsible by the overall policy direction of CABRI; a Management Committee, which approves CABRI’s work plan and oversee the use of funds; and a Secretariat, which is responsible for the day-to-day administration of CABRI.

CABRI is headed by an Executive Secretary.

Who are the members of CABRI?
CABRI is established as an international, autonomous organization with a legal personality. Its six founding members are: Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal and South Africa. 
Since 2004, 30 African countries gave participated in CABRI activities. As CABRI is now a legal body, all African countries are invited to accede to the organisation.

How does a country become a member of CABRI?
Any African state wishing to become a member state of CABRI can do so by acceding to the International Agreement according to its domestic policies. Once the agreement has been ratified, the instrument of ratification should be deposited to the CABRI Secretariat. Membership to CABRI becomes effective fifteen days after the deposit of the instrument of ratification.

How is CABRI financed?
CABRI is currently fully donor funded. However, as it starts its operations as an international organisation, CABRI will collect membership fees from its member states.

Does CABRI provide financial assistance to African countries or to individuals?
No, CABRI does not provide any financial assistance to countries or individuals.

How many activities does CABRI have in a year?
It depends on the year. Please visit the Events section of the website to keep up with upcoming events.

When and where does CABRI have its annual seminars?
The Annual CABRI Seminars are scheduled to take place every year around April. The dates and location vary according to the country that is selected to host the seminar.

How can I participate in CABRI activities?
All CABRI events are by invitation only and are not opened to the general public. How do I register for a CABRI event?
All invitees need to complete registration forms that are attached to invitation letters.

Usernames and passwords have been created for senior budget officials who participate in CABRI activities. How can my organisation enter into a partnership with CABRI?
As a network owned, led and managed by senior budget officials, all proposals for partnerships have to come from senior budget officials and approved by the Management Committee. CABRI tries to make available all research, publications and presentations in all three of its official languages: English, French and Portuguese. However, not all presentations are available in French and Portuguese. If they do not appear on the website, it means that we have no translations available for them.
