Prior to secondment to CABRI in January 2022 to lead the Public Debt Management Programme, Jim Matsemela served as a Chief Director Strategy & Risk Management (Head of Middle Office) in the Asset & Liability Management Division (Debt Office) of National Treasury, South Africa. Prior to assuming the Chief Director role, Jim Matsemela served as a Director: Market Risk. Jim Matsemela graduated with a BCom Honours degree in Business Management (specialising in investment and international financial management) from University of South Africa, where he also completed his BCom in Economics and Business Management. He is a Certified Associate in Banking CAIB (SA) - Treasury & International Banking from the Institute of Bankers (IOBSA). He completed the International Capital Markets Qualification/ACISI from the SA Institute of Financial Markets (SAIFM) in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI) in the UK. He also completed an Associate Professional Risk Manager (APRM) Certification from the Professional Risk Manager International Association (PRMIA).
