The policy dialogue event on agriculture brought together government officials from ministries of finance, budget and agriculture to consider the role of governments in developing value-chains in agriculture. Through a combination of case studies and facilitated discussions, it provided insight into the policy considerations and the institutional challenges for promoting value chains. This included:
(i) the tools used to assess and prioritize value chains,
(ii) the complexity of agriculture policies aimed at developing value-chains for internal or external markets,
(iii) the institutional challenges of multi-sector budgeting for prioritized value chains.
