The availability of user-friendly data on public debt in Africa remains scant, and in most cases, inaccessible to many practitioners and potential users. Information on public debt, underlying policies and market infrastructure, communicates a government’s ability to effectively manage its debt.

A single, collated source of information on African countries’ central government debt is useful for any market analyst, operator or researcher. The Africa Debt Monitor, to be launched in 2019, will respond to this information gap, and provide valuable country-specific data, improving the dissemination and use of information on debt. It will also allow debt officials to learn about their peers’ debt issuance and management programmes.
